How to Allow Only Approved YouTube Channels

Restrict your child's YouTube to only channels you've personally reviewed and approved.

Option 1: YouTube Kids — Approved content only

Best for children under 8 who use the YouTube Kids app.

1. Open YouTube Kids and enter parent settings
2. Select your child's profile
3. Choose Approved content only
4. Search for channels, collections, or individual videos to add
5. Your child only sees what you've selected — no search, no browsing

Limitations: Limited to content available on YouTube Kids (which is a subset of regular YouTube). No search capability in this mode. Requires ongoing curation as your child's interests change.

Option 2: WhitelistVideo — Channel whitelisting on regular YouTube

Best for children 8+ who've outgrown YouTube Kids but still need guardrails.

WhitelistVideo blocks all YouTube content by default. Only videos from channels you've specifically approved will play — everything else shows a blocked message.

1. Install WhitelistVideo on your child's device
2. Open the parent app
3. Add trusted channels to the approved list
4. Your child sees regular YouTube but can only watch from approved channels

Additional controls: You can also enable AI Auto-pilot (Premium) which screens individual videos automatically, whitelist entire playlists, block Shorts, hide comments, and block downloads.

What about supervised YouTube content levels?

Google's supervised accounts offer content levels (Explore, Explore More, Most of YouTube) but these are age-based category filters — not a channel whitelist. Your child can watch any channel within the selected content level. This is less restrictive than a parent-approved list.
